Doc Requests

Updated 2026-07-19

Doc Requests close the loop between "someone should document this" and it actually happening. Instead of a Slack message that dies in the scroll, you file a request — and when a teammate records against it, the request fulfills itself.

Creating a request

  1. Open Doc Requests in the sidebar and create a new request.
  2. Give it a clear, specific title — "How to process a refund in Stripe" — and any notes about what should be covered.

Open requests are visible to the team, so anyone with the knowledge can pick one up.

Fulfilling a request

The elegant part: teammates with the Dockable Recorder see open requests right in their menu bar, under Record for request. Picking one starts a normal recording — and when they hit Send:

  • The recording uploads with the request's title.
  • The request is automatically marked fulfilled and linked to the video.
  • The requester gets an email that their documentation is ready.

No status updates, no "did you ever record that?" follow-ups.

Requests and Coverage

The Coverage view shows what's documented and what's thin or stale — gaps you find there are natural doc requests. Over time this becomes the team's documentation to-do list, prioritized by what people actually search for and can't find.

FAQ

What happens if a fulfilled recording gets recalled?

Recalling the recording (within the recorder's 15-minute window) reopens the request automatically — nothing is silently lost.

Can I fulfill a request with an uploaded video instead of the recorder?

The automatic flow runs through the recorder today. For an upload, fulfill the request manually by linking or closing it after uploading.
