Your first recording

The fastest way to understand Dockable is to make one narrated recording and watch what comes out the other side. This walkthrough assumes you have the Dockable Recorder installed and enrolled — if not, start with Installing the recorder, or upload any existing video from the dashboard instead.

Record

1. Click the Dockable icon in your Mac's menu bar and choose Record Screen….
2. Pick the screen or window to capture.
3. Check Record my microphone. This is the important one — your narration is what becomes the transcript, the searchable answers, and the document.
4. Optional: check Show my camera to add a picture-in-picture bubble of your face, and pick its corner and size.
5. Click the screen you want to record. Recording starts, and the menu-bar icon shows the elapsed time.

Now do the work — walk through the process you want documented, and narrate what you're doing as if a new teammate were watching over your shoulder.

Stop and send

1. Click the menu-bar icon and choose Stop Recording.
2. The review window opens with your capture. Watch it if you like.
3. Give it a clear title — this stays as the video's name.
4. Click Send.

The upload happens in the background. If your network hiccups, the recorder retries automatically — you don't need to babysit it.

Tip: Changed your mind? You have 15 minutes after sending to recall a recording. Recall completely erases it — the video, its transcript, and anything generated from it. See Review, send, and recall.

See what Dockable made

Open your Library on the dashboard. Your recording appears with a thumbnail, and processing usually finishes within a minute or two. Open the video and you'll find:

• A transcript of everything you said, synced to the video.
• A summary, chapters, and tags, written automatically.
• A Next steps card: Edit, Generate Document, and Ask AI About This Video.

Click Generate Document and pick a format — that's your narration turned into written documentation. That's the whole loop: record once, get docs.

FAQ

I forgot to turn on the mic. Is the recording useless?

No — it's still watchable and shareable. But without narration there's no transcript, so documents, search, and study tools aren't available for that video. The video's page will show a banner explaining this. Record with the mic next time to unlock everything.

Can I clean up my "ums" before sharing?

Yes. Open the video and click Edit — the editor can remove filler words and silent gaps in one click each. See Removing fillers and silences.
