Loom vs VidDocs: Recording Is Easy. Finding the Answer Is Hard.

Loom ends where the recording ends. You get a video link, a transcript, and — if you pay for the Business+AI plan — an auto-generated title, summary, and chapters. What you don't get is documentation: nobody at Loom is turning your 8-minute walkthrough into a step-by-step SOP a new hire can follow without hitting play.

Loom's AI features — auto titles, summaries, chapters, filler-word and silence removal, edit-by-transcript — are locked to the Business+AI plan at $24 per user per month. The standard Business plan at $18/user/month doesn't include them, and the free Starter plan caps you at 25 total videos, 5 minutes per recording, and 720p.

VidDocs treats AI as the product, not an add-on. Transcription, document generation, and search are core features, and paid plans are priced per team, not per seat: the Team plan is $79/month for up to 10 members. For a 10-person team, Loom Business+AI runs about $2,880 a year; VidDocs Team is $948 on monthly billing (or $649 billed annually). You shouldn't have to do per-seat math to find out whether your own recordings get summarized.

Loom has been part of Atlassian since 2023, and its most advanced capabilities show it: Jira workflows, Confluence embedding, and "agent briefings" for Atlassian's Rovo agents. If your company runs on Atlassian, that's a real advantage — and we'll say plainly that VidDocs has no Jira or Confluence integration today.

VidDocs bets on the opposite architecture: openness. Every procedure captured on video can be exported as an agent-executable skill file for Claude, Codex, Gemini, or Cursor, and an MCP server exposes your knowledge base to any agent that speaks the protocol. The process knowledge in your head — including the spoken exceptions that never make it into written docs — becomes something your AI agents can actually act on, whatever stack you run.
